Should I go ahead and kick off ski season?

October 30, 2007

Last weekend it turns out some kids went up to Lost Trail and made some turns. I’m thinking this Friday, my day off, I’ll get my gear together and go grab a few runs. It’d be work cause I’d have to hike for my turns… but I could use the exercise and I could DEFINITELY use the skiing.

Sounds great right? Well here’s the downside… The Lost Trail ski area is prime hunting ground. This being hunting season, that means I have to keep in mind that hunters may/may not be up there shooting anything that moves. So I may have to go find myself something super bright orange and then go skiing for a couple hours. I just can’t decide if it’s a good idea…

I think I’ll check the snow conditions later in the week. If they’ve still got decent snow or if they get some fresh then I’ll head up for a few runs.

Lost book of Nostradamus

October 29, 2007

I’m sitting here watching a History channel show about the “Lost book of Nostradamus.” It’s crazy. I’m so amused that people actually buy into all this stuff. The predictions are insanely vague but people read so much into it because they really want to believe that this guy predicted the future so long ago. They have to explain so many things as “symbols” that it’s crazy to believe that it actually means what they think it means.

I guess some of them you could maybe, possibly get to… but he put out so much crap that he was bound to get something right throughout history. It’s not like he put dates on anything. Just said it was going to happen in the future. Heck, I can do that… I see… the Dallas Cowboys… winning a Super Bowl… You heard it here first. You’ll see, sometime in the future they’re going to win the big one and you’re going to be shocked that I predicted the future! And I wasn’t even speaking in symbols!

Here, I’ll give you a symbol prediction… I see a moose, walking through a river that is burning with fish spitting rainbows. I have no idea what that means, but at some point in the future it will all make sense. Trust me. I am Clintrodamus.

Nuts

October 27, 2007

These guys are just nuts. This is a clip from one of this year’s ski movies. One of the big mountain skiers has gotten into base jumping. He does crazy lines that end in huge cliffs and then base jumps off rather than stopping. So he met up with some crazy Euro base jumpers and got a view of their insanity.

Not a lot going on around here this week. The weather is pretty nice most days and things seem to be going smoothly for a little bit. We’re on our way to Missoula today to get some errands done.

I’m trying to decide what to do about a new cell phone. I’ve had my Razr for two years and I’m due for a new phone. Verizon’s New Every Two program gives me a nice discount so I’m trying to decide what I want. I’d like a smartphone but I can’t afford to spend a ton of money on one so I’m hoping that with the holidays coming up they’ll drop the prices a bit more and I can get one.

Other than that… things are pretty dull. At least the video will entertain you for a few minutes.

Unreal

October 25, 2007

This is what Southern California looks like from space right now… The red dots are fire activity. Plenty of smoke to go around. After having lived through a summer of this, it’s sad that others are now having to go through it.

Two months

October 25, 2007

It’s only 2 months until Christmas. I love Christmas. It’s the best holiday of the year. I can’t wait. This year will be especially good because I’ll get to spend it with my family. That in itself isn’t all that unusual but since I don’t live with them anymore it means I’ll get to spend some time with them. I love my family and moving away from them turned out to be a lot harder than I thought it would be. So I’m really looking forward to getting to go back and not be under the pressure of a wedding to spend time with the fam. Not to mention my sister and new Bro-in-law Jimmy.

I need to get started on my Christmas list for this year. As some may know, I make a pretty big deal out of my Christmas lists. I’ve had a musical slide show, a power point presentation and last year I presented my list as an art show. I’ve got something else in mind for this year but it’s going to take some time and effort so I need to get started on it. I can’t say what it is cause my family reads the blog and I want to surprise them.

Nothing like the holidays… hopefully it’ll be a white Christmas this year.

Ok, who didn’t dance?

October 24, 2007

So we had all that snow and the weather was nice and cool, looking good for an early base for the season and now we have two days of weather in the 70’s? Somebody didn’t do the snow dance. I can’t believe this… It’s hot compared to what we’ve been having. It’s the end of October for cryin’ out loud. It’s not supposed to be this warm.

I’ve been spending extra time at work this week trying to get templates and libraries moved over to InDesign from Quark so that we can move to the new computers as soon as possible. I still need to teach the basics of InDesign to a few people that also do lay-out but at least the ground work is going smoothly so far. I’ve just about got the libraries moved over and a couple of the templates I got done last night. I just can’t wait to move to the new computer full time. It’s so much nicer than the one I’ve been using.

I can’t believe the fires in SoCal. Hopefully everyone I know out there is OK. Those fires are brutal and it doesn’t seem like there’s anything that’s going to stop the fires anytime soon. I know it doesn’t rain out there usually until sometime in January. That’s a long time to go with the fires burning like they are. I just hope they find a way to get things under control.

More Snow Dance!

October 23, 2007

Lost Trail ski area, the local hill I’ll be spending plenty of time at this winter, got 20 inches of snow over the weekend. That’s not enough for them to open up or anything but it’s an excellent start. Hopefully it will continue to snow and they can get an early start on the season. I’ll have to keep doing my snow dance… That’s really a weird combination of the robot and running man with a side of cabbage patch… Just kidding, I don’t even know what the cabbage patch is.

It’s been overcast down here but it keeps threatening to snow. Hopefully the snowline will move down this far down soon. I’m ready for the flakes to fly.

Sunday is a day of rest

October 22, 2007

And yet I work Sundays… Fortunately though, Sunday is a casual day at work since it’s only a couple of us that go in to put the paper together. Also, since everything (for the most part) is written on Friday, everything is ready for me when I get in there. That combined with a shorter paper for Monday morning means that it doesn’t take too long to put it together. So even though I have to work Sundays, it’s a pretty easy day and one that I enjoy most days. If we had a TV so I could watch/listen to football I’d be even happier.

Gary and Jeremy (or Berry and mini-Berry as they are listed in my phone) went out for their first day of hunting today. They left at 4:30 this morning. I guess they didn’t get the memo on Sunday being a day of rest. They came over to the house after their day to watch some football since they are both Denver Broncos fans. When I got home just after half time they were wiped out. It was the quietest I think I’ve ever seen them. I don’t think I’ll ever really understand the appeal of hunting. Wear yourself out like that almost every day for a month just for some meat you can buy at the grocery store? I just don’t get it.

They enjoy it though so I guess that’s good for them. We’ll enjoy the meat from it. I think I got the best deal. I married the daughter so I don’t have to hunt but I get to reap the rewards.

The Cowboys won again today. That means going into their bye week they’re 6-1. Best in the NFC. This is a great year for the Boys so far. Hope they keep it up.

Still got the boots…

October 21, 2007

Well, I guess someone must have been thinking about buying my old boots then decided against it. When I went back to the swap to find out if they sold they hadn’t so I got the boots back. Oh well. Back in the shed they’ll go and I’ll try again next year. Lots of stuff didn’t sell so it’s kind of a crap shoot I think. Gotta hope someone with the right sized feet need boots or whatever. Next year we’ll try a few more things. We just haven’t unpacked all the ski gear yet. We will soon though.

It’s been snowing in the mountains here all weekend too. The mountains are all white. It’s beautiful. I need to get out there with my camera and get some shots of it for the blog. If I find a little extra time tomorrow I’ll do that.
