Yeah baby!

November 30, 2007

My Cowboys are now in sole possession of first place in the NFC. Second place in the league. If they win out the rest of the season the road to the super bowl in the NFC runs through Dallas. The Boys put down Green Bay tonight. Amazingly they played them better when Favre was IN the game. Once he got knocked out they got all out of sorts and allowed Green Bay to make a game of it.

They won though! That was a huge win. Had Owens not dropped TWO big catches it would have been a lot better. I don’t know what his deal is. Sometimes he makes the most amazing grabs. Other times he makes meĀ  want to bench him. Maddening.

As if that weren’t great enough… once the game was over I flipped over to TNT and watched the end of the Lakers-Nuggets game. The Lakers destroyed the Nuggets. That may not seem all that exciting… but my bro-in-law Big Jim is a big Nuggets fan… so getting to see my team beat his team made for a fun few minutes. I sent him a text message to rub it in a little.

Good night for my teams. Makes me happy.

Need sleep

November 29, 2007

I have to get to bed but remembered I hadn’t updated the blog yet. I kind of spaced out for the past half hour or so. Happens. Tomorrow is my Friday which is sweet.

I heard today that the local ski area is planning on opening a week from tomorrow. It’s about freaking time. I need to get on the snow… BAD. I may go up Friday depending on the weather. I’m not sure how the snow is up there. I’ll have to ask the guy that was up today. He’ll know.

We’re almost to December. It’s crazy. This year is going by so fast. The good thing though is that it’s getting closer and closer to when we go to Colorado to spend the holidays with my family. I can’t wait. I haven’t seen them since my kid sister got married and that was so rushed. Now we’ll have a week to hang out with them and relax. I’m so looking forward to it. I just don’t know what happened to November.

Sad

November 28, 2007

I don’t have a lot to write about. It snowed again. That’s cool.

The thing that’s inspired the title of the post is the sudden, tragic death of Washington Redskin Sean Taylor. For those not in the know, he was killed by an intruder in his home. He was shot n the leg and the bullet apparently cut his femoral artery which led to massive blood loss and eventually, death.

Taylor was a pro-bowl safety in the NFL and even though I’m a die-hard Cowboys fan, bitter rival of the Redskins, I still respected his growing talent/skills. I think it’s terrible that the world lost someone that was turning their lives around and becoming a solid father, football player and person.

Also gone is the lead singer of Quiet Riot. I actually had a Quiet Riot tape when I was a kid. The first hair band tape I ever owned. They were awesome.

These kinds of things typically occur in threes… that leaves me nervous over who will be the third.

Writers strike

November 27, 2007

I’m a Battlestar Galactica fan. Have been for about a year now. I’d heard the show was fantastic but had never really gotten into it. Then, on a whim, I picked up the first season. (Actually, downloaded it from iTunes) I was immediately sucked in. Great show.

So after season 1 I got season 2. Continued to be awesome. I set it up to record on the ol’ DVR for season 3. I’ve seen most of Season 3 but not all due to moving and whatnot. I’ll get it on DVD as soon as it comes out… whenever that will be. I’m totally hooked.

Anyway, I got to watch their mini-movie thing “Razor” tonight. It was a flashback episode kind of thing that explained what happened about a year and a half ago. It was interesting… kept my attention… and made me want to see the last season (season 4 is the final season for the show) but it won’t start until March! Argh! I don’t know if it’s the writer’s strike or what… but having to wait until March sucks hardcore.

I understand the writers’ stance and I actually support them… but their strike is killing my tv season! Heroes is ending early because of the strike and most of the other shows are going to have to go into hiatus or re-runs in the next couple weeks. The studios need to quit being so greedy and fork over some money for the writers from all the “new media” money they rake in. It wouldn’t kill them. Save my season!!!

Nothing to say…

November 26, 2007

I’m sitting here knowing that I need to update the blog but I really don’t have anything to say. I didn’t do much today other than go to work. I did a little shopping online this morning for Jess’ Christmas presents. Got some of that done. Obviously I can’t say what I got her cause she reads the blog. Hopefully she’ll like it though. I think she will.

It’s pretty cold here. Getting down into single digits on a nightly basis. It’s supposed to snow again Tuesday so that’s kind of fun.

I’ve got a new project to work on. I can’t talk about it of course because it’s a surprise. It should be an entertaining project to put together though and should be exciting to unveil.

That’s really about it. I’m tired and the work week has started again.

What did you do for Black Friday?

November 24, 2007

We didn’t do much. We slept in, got up and went out for a little while. We went to Quality Supply first. It’s like a Home Depot for cowboys. Seriously. They’ve got tools and stuff but instead of lumber they have cowboy stuff. Saddles, fences, other cowboy stuff. It’s kind of funny. We just wanted to see what they had. It’s one of the biggest stores in Hamilton so we figured they’d have a big sale. They did apparently. The line at the registers was like 50 feet long. Unreal.

Then we went out for brunch. I had a burger, Jess had an omelet. After brunch we wandered around main street in town before coming home. All in all it was a decent day but we didn’t really do any shopping. Nothing serious anyway. Just looked at stuff cause we were bored.

The fun thing for the day was my parent’s got my Christmas list. As you may know, my Christmas lists are fairly creative and big deals. I’ve done power point presentations, audio slideshows, last year I painted my list… This year, I sculpted! Yeah, I got some clay and sculpted the items I wanted. I wish I’d taken a picture but I forgot before I got the pieces all wrapped up and in the box. I’ll have to do it when we go home over Christmas.

That was it… pretty dull Black Friday. Today we’re headed out to the in-laws to finally celebrate Thanksgiving. Turkey and all the good stuff! I’m gonna be FAT tonight!

Happy Thanksgiving!

November 22, 2007

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

These are the things I’m thankful for today.

  • I have an amazing family that loves and supports me in all that I do. They are a tremendous help to both me and Jess and everything we are and have is a result of the efforts they’ve made in my life.
  • I have an unbelievable wife. She’s hot, she’s smart, she’s caring, she’s loving… so many things that I could go on and on about. After more than five years together we’re still happy together. You just can’t ask for more than that.
  • I have great friends… spread all over the country.
  • We have a cute kitty that loves us.
  • We have a nice little house. While I complain about aspects of it from time to time, it’s so nice to live in a house that doesn’t share walls with anyone else.
  • I have a good job. It’s not a job that I endure. I actually enjoy the work which is something I’ve longed for since I got out of school.
  • My truck has new tires. (Thanks mom and dad!)
  • There’s snow on the ground. A white Thanksgiving!
  • My in-laws are nearby and we get to spend more time with them than we used to. I’m also getting opportunities to get to know my brother-in-law better. Once hunting season is over I’m sure I’ll see him even more. =)
  • It’s less than a month before I get to fly home to spend some time with my own family and hopefully have lunch with my dad.

There are plenty of other things but those are the top of the list. I have a lot to be thankful for and it’s good to take some time to remember that.

We live in a white world

November 20, 2007

That title has nothing to do with race. Honest… It was snowing when I went to bed last night. I woke up this morning to a solid 8 inches of snow in the yard, on the trees, in the streets… Everything was white. I had to bust out the snow boots so I could dig out the sidewalks. Heck, we couldn’t even get the door to open all the way the snow was so deep.

There were/are a lot of trees down because the snow is very wet and therefore very heavy. Power has been out for various parts of our valley all day. Fortunately for us it’s stayed on in town which is where our little house is. Especially fortunate because we don’t have a fire place and our heat is electric. If the power goes out, it’ll get really cold. Don’t want that.

It’s supposed to snow tonight and tomorrow so we’re due a few more inches. I’ll get the camera out tomorrow and get some shots of all the white stuff. It’s fun stuff. I love this time of year.

S-a-t-u-r-d-a-y NIGHT

November 18, 2007

What’s up party people? Jess and I had a kind of lazy day. Jess hurt her back this week so she’s kind of out of commission for anything too adventurous. So we hung out at home for most of the day. I made a waffle brunch and then we took turns showering and getting cleaned up.

For the afternoon we went for a little drive around our little town and looked at all the places it’d be nice to be able to build a place on someday if we ever have money. We also saw a lot of deer. A LOT of deer. You’d never believe it was hunting season around here with all the deer running around. Oh, and we saw a herd of wild turkeys. Gobble gobble!

We picked up a couple movies then came home and watched them together. The first was “In the land of women.” The guy from the OC was in it as was Meg Ryan. It was pretty good. More my kind of movie than Jess’. The other movie was Sicko by Michael Moore. I’m sure my good friend Roland would have a lot to say about how horrible of a person he is… but even Fox News called this a good movie. It really makes you realize how messed up our health care system is here in the US. Bottom line, health care should not be a “for profit” industry. It should be about helping people.

So that was our Saturday… Not too busy but pretty relaxing and I enjoyed spending the day with my lovely bride.

Everybody’s workin’ for the weekend…

November 16, 2007

I love the weekends. I think I’d love retirement. If only I were rich enough to retire. I enjoy getting to sleep in and then have the whole day to do whatever needs to get done… or whatever I want to do. I think weekends are God’s reward for not giving up during the week.

I think our little Aspen likes the weekends too. Especially Friday because I’m here all day usually so she has someone to hang out with. Normally she goes to sleep under the bed during the week but Fridays she tends to hang out with me, following me from room to room. Right now she’s sleeping a couple feet away from me. Gotta love my little buddy.

I was going to go skiing today but I agreed to put it off one more week to ease Jess’ fears. The ski area (which isn’t open yet) is an access point to some hunting areas. I was planning to go up, hike some trails and get some turns in. Jess was worried that I’d look like an animal and end up getting shot at, or worse, actually shot… So to put her mind at ease I stayed home and I’m working on projects around the house. Next weekend though… I’m all about the skiing.

I love weekends.
