I’m back!

December 30, 2007

It’s been a few days since I’ve had time to update the blog but I’m back now. Being on vacation in Colorado kept me relatively busy but I was focused on relaxing and hanging with my family, not necessarily updating. Then when we got back to Montana we’ve been busy with the other family and I’ve been coming home and going straight to bed.

So let’s see… We had a great Christmas with my family. It was a lot of fun and we had a great time spending time with both my parents and my sister and her new husband. We ate good, we opened good presents and everyone but me got sick. Well, both parents and Jess anyway. Callie and JP weren’t around enough to get sick I think.

We came back to Montana the day after Christmas. Jess was still feeling under the weather but her middle brother came over from Portland with his girlfriend and Christmas No. 2 was on. I had to work Thursday and then we the boys in the family went skiing Friday. It was seriously cold. We skied most of the day but called it quits a little early due to the seriously freezing temperatures.

Then… I finally succumbed to the disease Jess had been breathing all over me for a week. I now I have a cold. Got it yesterday and then we went over to the Reicherts’ for Christmas. We had a good time hanging out and they did their usual tell lots of stories all day long. We watched Christmas Vacation which is a yearly tradition with them. Then we took family photos which I hope I didn’t look too sick in.

Now I’m on the couch… trying to get better. Hope everyone had a great Christmas and didn’t get sick like me and my family.

Happy Christmas!

December 24, 2007

Well, I live my life a day ahead thanks to the newspaper so tomorrow is Christmas here. Also helped along by Jimmy having other family commitments on the 25th. So tomorrow morning we’ll be celebrating the big day with presents and fun. I love Christmas!

We went to church this morning at our old church. I really miss that place. It is such a great church and we had such a fantastic service. Just unbelievable. If it was possible for Jess and I to commute down here every weekend just to go to church, we totally would. It was nice to get to go even if it was just for one Sunday though.

I hope all of you that read the blog have a great Christmas, even if yours is a day after ours. Remember that Jesus came back for you and that we use the day to celebrate HIS birth. Without Jesus there would be no Christmas. Wish the Big J a happy birthday and I hope everyone gets everything they wanted this year.

Home in Colorado

December 21, 2007

We got here Wednesday night and I’ve been chilling out since then. Or trying to anyway. Jess is still sick so getting a decent night’s sleep is a bit difficult. Made even more so by the fact that we’re sleeping in a double bed. We’re used to a king bed so it’s a tight fit for us to sleep so close together. Plus, since Jess isn’t sleeping well she is tossing and turning and stealing the covers. So I’m a little tired but that’s ok. At least I haven’t gotten sick yet!

It’s nice to be home too. I’ve gotten to hang out with my family a bit and catch up. I enjoy it. We’ve had a big family dinner and a hung out a bit at the house. We’ll do Christmas a day early since the newest member of the family, Jimmy, has to go see his ailing Grandmother on Christmas day. Since I live my life a day ahead of time (thanks to the newspaper) that’s ok with me.

We haven’t done much, just a little shopping since we got here. Jess being sick is slowing us down a bit. I’m probably going to go out this afternoon and leave her at home since she doesn’t feel like going out. Poor girl.

I like Colorado. I miss living here but Montana is home now and that’s good too. I don’t miss the traffic we’ve encountered here that’s for sure.

Country roads, take me home!

December 19, 2007

The day has arrived! Tomorrow we’re headed to Colorado for a week of fun with the family. Well, my side anyway. Jess’ side is going to be here still. Good thing too because they’ll come over and keep an eye on the fat cat, get the mail and all that good stuff.

I have to get up and pack in the morning still. I’ve spent the last two days getting caught up on laundry. There was a lot of it.

The lovely Jess has caught some bug that’s making her feel pretty miserable. Who’d have thought since she works in a hospital and all? Hopefully she’ll start recovering soon since we’re traveling tomorrow. And I really hope that I don’t end up catching it since I sleep right next to her and I’m around her plenty. I’ve got a pretty strong immune system so I should be ok but you just never know.

This time tomorrow night I’ll be going to sleep in my parent’s house. Can’t wait!

Roller coaster day

December 17, 2007

What a day… Started off getting out of bed early. That’s a low. I’m so not a morning person. But I got up, got dressed, loaded up the gear and went skiing. Hitting the slopes on my new skis was a high. (Side note, the new skis are sweet. Super stable at speed and cut through the chopped snow like buttah) Also an almost high was that Yamaha was at the ski area having a demo day for snowmobiles. If I’d had more time I’d have gone for a ride. Unfortunately I had to get back to town so I could get to work.

So I packed up and came back down. Got home, unloaded the skis and grabbed a quick shower. (I was a bit stinky) Then it was off to work for a few hours. I got a majority of the paper put together then came home to watch my Cowboys play. (high)

The game was a horrid low. What a terrible game. The offense just couldn’t do anything. It was depressing.

Then I jumped back in the truck and went back to work to finish off the paper. Finished that up a bit before 9 and came home again to relax with the beautiful Mrs. Burson. Love that woman. (Another high) Now I’m going to bed early. Two more days of work and then it’s off to Colorado!

Almost Famous

December 16, 2007

This is a great movie. Even before this movie came out I’d been a pretty big Cameron Crowe fan. Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Say Anything, Jerry McGuire… He’s just a great writer/director. Then this movie came out. Semi-autobiographical, filled with great music, Jason Lee… couldn’t miss. And he didn’t.

Admittedly, the movie didn’t do great at the box office. It did ok. Not great, not a bomb. I think most people just didn’t get into it. Too bad. It’s such a great movie.

I bout the DVD the day it came out. Several months later I bought the Bootleg Director’s Cut DVD. I ended up giving the first DVD to Kristy cause she likes the movie too. The director’s cut was better than the original. Added a few scenes that made others make more sense. The director’s commentary was great because Crowe talks about all the scenes that actually happened in real life. Rock stars are fun.

And you just can’t complain about a movie that does a group sing-a-long to Tiny Dancer.

Here’s what I want in a phone… now give it to me.

December 15, 2007

I’m still searching for a new cell phone. I’d love an iPhone but AT&T doesn’t have service here so they’re out. I’m pretty much stuck with Verizon because the only alternative is Alltel and they’re actually MORE expensive than Verizon. Those are the only two carriers up here so choices are pretty limited.

So here’s the deal. I essentially want a smartphone but I don’t want to have to pay all the extra fees for data.

I want a phone that has a slide out full QWERTY keyboard. Jess and I text each other quite a bit and I’m tired of all the weird txt typing you have to do without the full keyboard. I don’t want a flip open keyboard like the new Voyager Verizon has. I want a slide-out keyboard. I want a calendar that’s functional.  I want it to have a decent battery life.

I know what you’re thinking… Just get a PDA or a smartphone. Well that’s all well and good but then you gotta pay for all the data plan stuff. I have access to the mobile web on my phone but never use it. Our town is so small that it’s pointless for me to have that kind of access. It’s literally faster to drive through town than it is to look it up on your phone. I just want a phone that I can quickly and easily type text messages, maybe store some media (songs/tv shows) and keep myself a bit more organized.

Why can’t they give me a decent phone like that? Would it really be that complicated? All the other carriers seem to be able to do it.

Must be dry

December 14, 2007

I keep shocking myself. I hate getting shocked. Who likes getting electrocuted every time you touch something? I’m sick of it. I’ve done it probably 5 times in the past hour. Ugh! You can’t move around without producing some kind of static charge which is then instantly released when I touch something with metal on it.

Make me wonder how Ben Franklin got through life. He went LOOKING for electricity. Crazy fool. One of the greatest inventors ever and the dude’s out trying to get shocked? What was he thinking? Obviously he didn’t get shocked as often as I do. I’d be trying to stay away from getting more electricity flowing through me.

Right now though, I’m trying to be still so I stop getting shocked.

Time for a test drive

December 13, 2007

I got my new skis mounted finally. Tomorrow morning I’m taking them for a test drive for a couple hours. They are definitely sick. They’re probably the biggest skis I’ve ever been on. They’re not the longest, in high school I skied on 195’s. But that was back when skis were narrow and straight. These are 189’s but they’re FAT. These are probably as wide as both of the old skis put together. OK, not quite that wide since the ones in high school were probably around a 76 waist. These are a 100 waist though. Significantly wider.

It occurs to me as I write this that the majority of people that would read this blog have no idea what I just said. Just trust me when I tell you these are some seriously big skis. I’m excited about getting on them. I should take a picture but I’m too lazy to get up and go get the camera, get them put in a place I can photograph them and then upload it. Maybe some other day.

Anyway… I now have less than a week until we head to Colorado for Christmas. I’m so excited. I can’t wait to get a break from work and spend some time with friends/family. (Mostly family) This time next Wednesday I’ll be going to bed in my parent’s house. Awesome.
