The more things change the more they stay the same

March 1, 2008

Well, I didn’t get the editor job. It went to a guy from the Missoulian who’s been with the company for a long time. Honestly I kind of suspected that it would go that way and I’m fine with that. I haven’t met him yet but from everything I’ve heard he’s a good guy and should be pretty easy to get along with.

So for now I’ll keep doing what I’ve been doing and working on taking on more responsibility at the paper as I can. I’ll get more time to learn from people more experienced than me and eventually I’ll get another shot at being the editor. Being that I just started with the paper less than a year ago, it’s not too surprising that I wasn’t the first choice. I still think I’m qualified to do it and I could have done it had I been selected but it’s probably best for the paper to go with the guy with way more experience.

The bright side of the whole thing is that I will get to continue to enjoy skiing before work on Thursdays and I’ll continue to have Fridays off so that I can go skiing on those days as well. I can’t argue with that at all. I went skiing today in fact. Gotta love skiing.

Anyway, wanted to update what went down. It kind of unfolded how I expected it to so it wasn’t a shock. While I was a little disappointed I didn’t get chosen, I’m not really upset. I know why the decision was made and I agree with it for the most part and most of all I still have a job that I really enjoy doing. So even though I didn’t get the major push up at the paper, I got an opportunity to show a bit more of who I am and what I’m about which is never a bad thing.
