Home again

December 31, 2008

We arrived in Colorado last night. Amazingly our flights left and arrived on time and were as smooth as could be. Unreal. That NEVER happens for us. Especially when flying Delta. (Don’t Ever Leave The Airport) Half way through the trip we had about an hour and a half in the Salt Lake City airport. We ate at Dick Clark’s American Bandstand Grill. Not bad… especially for airport food. I had already vetoed the idea of eating in the bar since the last time we’d done that I got nailed with serious food poisoning and puked my innards out for 24 hours.

Now we’re kickin’ it at my folks place. We all went out to lunch today and this place called the Buckhorn Exchange. I had a buffalo burger that was one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. So good. It’s pretty cool being at home again. I’ve missed my family and it’s great to see them again. I know the time will go quickly so I’m trying to just soak it all in.

The “T” key on the computer I’m using doesn’t work too well so it’s kind of difficult to type this blog post.

Tonight my kid sister is going to bring over her new Wii and we’re going to play on it. Should be fun! We’ll be opening presents tomorrow! Not that I’m expecting too much but I don’t care… opening presents is fun! I like watching people open presents too. The excited looks on their faces are always a good time.

Mostly I’m enjoying being on vacation. It’s nice to get a break from the newspaper for a few days. The grind can really wear me down and now I get a chance to recharge which will make the next few months a lot easier to get through. I love being home.

Busy time of year

December 30, 2008

I’ve hardly had time to think about my little blog as the year comes to an end. I’ve been working hard at work and trying to get things ready around the house to take our vacation to Colorado. On top of that, it’s been snowing like crazy around here so I’ve spent a lot of time outside shoveling our sidewalks. Tonight was the worst as it rained on top of all the fresh snow so it was HEAVY!

We’re taking off tomorrow for Colorado for a few days. My bro-in-law, the newly sworn in police officer will be keeping an eye on the place and taking care of the kids while we’re gone. We’re only gone for a few days so they should be fine. We got AJ so that Aspen would have someone around when we’re gone. They did well in August when we were gone for 10 days so they should be fine with us being gone half that.

I’m looking forward to this trip. I haven’t seen my family since late September so it’s nice to get some time to go hang out with them. It’s hard to get through Christmas without being around them. Never quite seems like Christmas until we celebrate with them.

Yesterday I watched the Cowboys totally self-destruct. It was the first game all season I didn’t watch until the bitter end. The game was so bad I turned it off half way through the third quarter. It was unbelievably bad. I don’t know how Wade Phillips keeps his job after that loss. The team was totally unprepared for that game. Not one aspect of the game went well for the team. It was unbelievable. A horribly embarassing way to end a season of underachievement.

I’m tired and need to get to bed, but at least now the blog is updated. I’ll try to update it while we’re on the trip too. I should be more rested and have more free time than I have the past week or so.

Opening day finally

December 18, 2008

Holy cow, finally… Lost Trail, the local ski area, is opening tomorrow. I’m getting up and heading up for a couple hourse before work. The snow isn’t supposed to be all that good but at least it’s skiing. I’ve been waiting for forever for this day to come. Now I just have to manage to get some sleep tonight so that I can get up in the morning.

We’re also in a heat wave… got into the teens today. That’ll only last tomorrow and then it starts getting cold again. The projected high for Sunday is -2. That’s the HIGH. The low is supposed to be -20. All of that, of course, is before you factor in any wind chill. Brr. My truck is hating this seriously cold weather. It’s hard to get it started at times. It’s old enough that it should probably have a block heater… but then, even if it had one, we don’t really have a place to plug it in since we don’t really have a garage. Oh well.

Anyway, I’ll try to remember to grab the camera tomorrow morning so that I can get some photos from my first day of skiing for the season. I’ll be pretty tired though since I don’t normally get up that early so remembering may or may not take place. I’ll try though.

AJ is curled up on my lap right now

December 6, 2008

Jess has gone to bed and here I am sitting at the computer trying to figure out what to write. It’s been a bit of a weird week at work. It was a shorter week than usual for me since I had Sunday off for my Thanksgiving holiday. Then the editor was out all week covering the Capitol Christmas Tree lighting ceremony in D.C. On top of that I’ve got a special section I have to get finished by Sunday night. Lots of work without a lot of direction from above.

Whatever… work is work and I’m doing my best to just do my job and keep out of all the junk going on.

Jess has been working all day/night so far this weekend. The hospital foundation board is having a big retreat or something and she’s been doing her usual OCD job of making sure it goes smoothly. She’s enjoying it and doing a great job so I’m happy for her. She’s on the fast track to be the Foundation director I think. I hope so, we could use the money… plus, it’s something she really enjoys.

In other news… Jess and I are having a weight loss competition. I’ve lost two pounds this week. I’ve got another 15.5 to lose before I get to the first goal. I’m working out hard though so hopefully I’ll get to the goal before Jess does. If not, I win anyway cause my wife will be even hotter. Can’t lose there.

That’s about it… pretty dull week so far.
